A Lifetime of Creativity

I started quilting more than 20 years ago hoping it would keep me entertained.  Its such a versatile craft.  I mused I could applique, piece, embroider, and machine quilt anything I wanted.   and then .... I started dying fabric designing my own unpublished patterns and taking pictures leading up to portrait quilts.

I am a teacher by nature and love children.  Especially the wonders of the 6 year old child.  I enjoy there honesty though sometimes too candid, their compassion, and sense of wonder and curiosity.

This begins my journey as a portrait artist.  I had always had this opinion who would want a portrait of another child and came to the conclusion it's not just the child. It's the emotion it depicts.

I started taking portraits of children in different poses.  Why you may ask?  I witnessed the sight of 9 children lifting my first autistic child in the air after he kick a ball into a soccer goal. This was a rare occasion for any autistic child.   It brings tears to eyes; every time I reflect on the moment.

Beautiful Metamorphosis is the beginning of the total quilt.  Beautiful Metamorphosis represents the child who misses out on the soccer kick, but is the one who helps my student in the classroom on a daily basis.  I began with her.
